First Things First: Books for Women - 1975-1976 Catalog [book catalog]
Washington, DC: 1st Things 1st, 1975. Offset on newsprint. 8 1/4 x 11 3/4 in. 27 pp. Very good. Item #10346
The second, and possibly final, book catalog from First Things First, a “fe-mail order house” started by Susan Sojourner. Sojourner, along with her husband, participated in the Freedom Rides of the early-1960s and was an active Civil Rights organizer in the South before moving to D.C., becoming active in the feminist movement, and founding First Things First to distribute feminist titles domestically and internationally. Founded in 1973, the booksellers produced their first catalog in 1974. This 1975 catalog appears to be the final one; we locate no records of any later issues. Sojourner later came out as a lesbian and contributed to Off Our Backs.
Four examples of any issue found in OCLC as of October 2024, with only two examples of this 1975 catalog; many more examples on OCLC are digital or microfilm.
A superb and extensive record of feminist book distribution and bookselling.
Price: $250.00
