Fugitive Materials is committed to the preservation of radical, lesser-known, and alternative histories, and to the disruption of informational privilege through archiving, publishing, and bookselling. We specialize in global material cultures of resistance: the detritus of radical social movements, queer histories, counterculture, pedagogy, urbanism, uprisings, and art.

We organize, catalog, and place archives, ephemera, and primary-source documents with universities and museums around the world.

As members of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America (ABAA), we buy and sell books, periodicals and ephemera and locate rare and out-of-print publications.

Fugitive Materials also publishes books, zines, and catalogs, oftentimes prompted by archival materials we handle. A complete list of books and zines we have published and bookstores stocking Fugitive Materials can be found on the Publications page of our website.

We organize exhibitions, and frequently showcase artifacts and ephemera at book fairs around the world; we also stage occasional sidewalk book sales in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

We have a deep inventory of books and ephemera that have not yet been made available on our website, so please let us know if there are specific subjects you're looking to build on or artifacts for which you're searching within our broader specialties. We welcome visitors and are open by appointment.

We travel widely for new acquisitions and archival consultations, so don't hesitate to be in touch if you are interested in selling or consigning with us.

As temporary stewards of important and often unrecorded material histories, we hold obligations not just to potential buyers but to all seeking knowledge; as such, we frequently host scholars and university classes. Independent researchers are also invited to request free digital scans of items we have cataloged and currently possess in our holdings which we will happily oblige within the constraints of copyright law as promptly as we can.

Daylon Orr

Daylon Orr is the founder of Fugitive Materials. He is an archivist, publisher, and rare bookseller with a focus on underexamined histories - particularly the detritus of underground art and social movements around the world. Born in Tucson, Arizona and raised in Brooklyn, he graduated from Hunter College in 2016 with a Bachelors' diploma in Postcolonial Literature and Critical Theory.  Daylon is a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America (ABAA), the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB), and the Bibliographical Society of America (BSA), and a graduate of the Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar. He is also the host of Fugitive Materials Radio on Montez Press Radio, exploring underrecorded histories through interviews with activists, artists, and intellectuals.

Maya Fell

Maya Fell is the Artistic Director of Fugitive Materials. She is an independent curator, writer, and designer, and works as the studio manager for a photographer and filmmaker. Born and raised in New York City, she graduated from MICA in 2017 with a Bachelors’ diploma in Art History. She is currently a candidate for a Masters diploma in Art History at Hunter College.
