Top Ranking: A Collection of Articles on Racism and Classism in the Lesbian Community
New York: Come!Unity Press, 1980. Offset. Saddle stapled in blue wrappers. 148 pp. 5 ⅜ x 8 ¼ in. Minor soiling and wear to spine; very good. Item #10349
Collection of essays written in an analytic mode and political perspective that would come to be known as intersectional: beyond the topic signaled by the title, the collection covers Third World lesbianism, lesbians in prison, anti-imperialism, and Black lesbians in the gay liberation movement. Published shortly after the groundbreaking Combahee River Collective Statement articulated the specificity of oppression faced by women of color, the book was compiled and printed with the goal of contributing to the ongoing discussions in the lesbian community around class and race. The collection includes essays by major lesbian feminist writers Audre Lorde, Barbara Smith, Beverly Smith, Linda Brown, Cynthia R. Cauthern, Alison Colbert, Anita Cornwell, Karen Johanns, Vickie Mays, Cathy McCandless, Carol Seajay, and Minnie Bruce Pratt.
Published and printed by the New York gay autonomous press Come!Unity.
