Rare publication from the indigenous feminist organization Women of All Red Nations (W.A.R.N.), with a significant focus on reproductive health activism.

W.A.R.N. was founded in 1974. Its initial membership included more than 300 women from over 30 tribal communities, and significant overlap with members of the American Indian Movement (A.I.M.) and participants in the 1973 Wounded Knee Occupation. Key leaders in the organization included Lorelei DeCora Means, Madonna Thunderhawk, Phyllis Young, Janet McCloud, and Marie Sanchez. 

 

Much of W.A.R.N.’s early focus was on healthcare in indigenous communities, including organizing around nuclear waste disposal on indigenous lands, and against forced sterilization in indigenous communities. This report includes essays on sterilization, energy resource exploitation, and political prisoners. The group remains active and mobilized in the recent struggles against the Keystone XL pipeline.
