Fayetteville, AK: self-published, 1980. Photo-mechanical duplication from holograph with holograph in red marker. 8 ½ x 11 in. Author’s photograph by Ruth Mountaingrove. Horizontal line from folding; otherwise, very good. Item #10381

Broadside promoting The La Luz Journal, the self-published memoir by the Puerto Rican lesbian separatist Juana Maria Paz (aka Jean Gonzalez), documenting her itinerary through various intentional communities as a lesbian, feminist, and person of color during the late-1970s and 1980.

The memoir opens in January, 1978 and concludes in December, 1980, while Paz was living in La Luz de la Lucha [The Light of the Struggle], a lesbian separatist community in Arkansas. In-between, Paz travels from OWL Farm (Oregon Womyn’s Land), through California, and finally to Arkansas. Authors photo on the flyer was taken by Ruth Mountaingrove, the lesbian feminist photographer, poet, and musician, well-known for her documentation of the women’s land movement in Oregon.

A flyer promoting a significant document of Latinx lesbian communitarianism, self-publishing, and memoir.
