Flyer promoting Dirty Pictures, a performance by Carolee Schneemann at the Collective for Living Cinema, a downtown avant-garde film venue that cultivated the work of Ken Jacobs, Nick Zedd, Johanvan der Keuken, Yvonne Rainer, and others.
The performance was a celebrated example of the artist’s signature kinetic theater, alongside slides of text on film, and a selection of nude collages. Schneeman’s work, which materialized the process of painting as a live performance, was intended to polemicize the painting as a masculine form of art. On verso, the flyer features a schedule of other Schneeman events at the Living Cinema.
