Writing and photographs from the lesbian communitarian movement of the 1960s and ‘70s. Related to, but distinct from the broader hippie-era communal communal living, lesbian separatist communes stretched across the world throughout the 1970s.
This book compiles 30 detailed descriptions of lesbian communal life in New Mexico, New York, Florida, California, Denmark, and elsewhere, including Spanish-speaking and indigenous women of the American Southwest. Illustrated throighout with photographs and illustrations from the communes, the book describes the logistical, emotional, and interpersonal workings. Very good.
